I'm looking into using acoustic portals, and while they work fine for standard-sized doorways I've run into an issue when a portal is quite wide (e.g. >5m or so). Sounds are rerouted to the center of the portal, and if it's quite wide this can be a difference of a few meters from line of sight with the source (when looking through the opening). My question is if sounds are always rerouted to the center of the portal, because in my mind it should be the closest point on the bounds of the portal to the listener. When sounds are rerouted to the center they can be occluded by other objects even when there is still line of sight with the source, plus the positioning can sound quite wrong if this is the case.
