Rigidbody Attachment in Unity

I'm seeing that in order for sounds in Unity to work with the Environmental Reverb system I need to check Environment Aware.  This pops up a warning to Add Rigidbody!

What exactly does this Rigidbody do, and why is it necessary?  Are there any potential issues with processing or frame drops, seeing as practically every sound in the game (excluding Music and UI) needs to be Environment Aware?  This seems like it will end up creating a ton of objects!
