The behavior of the Speaker Panner varies depending on the Speaker Panning setting in the Positioning tab of an object's Property Editor. By default, Speaker Panning is set to Direct Assignment, which means the channels of 2D sounds and music are assigned directly to the corresponding channels of their output bus, regardless of the position or orientation of the listener or game object. In this case, the Speaker Panner view is not available.
However, you can select either of the other two Speaker Panning options to enable the Speaker Panner view. It can then be used to adjust the way the source audio is associated with the channels of its output bus as follows:
Balance-Fade: The Speaker Panner contains a two-dimensional graph view with X and Y coordinates, and a circle in the center. The X coordinate controls the left-right speaker balance, while the Y coordinate controls the front-rear speaker balance. You can drag the circle anywhere within this graph view to adjust the volumes of the channels of the output bus. Channels closer to the circle will have their volume increased, while channels further from the circle will have their volume decreased.
Note | |
---|---|
The Y coordinate has no impact when the output bus is stereo. The side speakers of a 7.1 configuration are at their maximum level when the circle is in the middle of the graph view. |
Steering: The Speaker Panner contains a three-dimensional graph view with X, Y, and Z coordinates, and a circle in the center. The X coordinate controls the left-right distribution, the Y coordinate controls the front-rear distribution, and the Z coordinate controls the up-down distribution. You can drag the circle anywhere within this graph view to redistribute the source audio amongst the channels of its output bus. The distribution will be weighted towards the location of the circle.
Note | |
---|---|
The Z axis is not represented in the graph view; its value is controlled and indicated solely by the Z axis slider. Additionally, it has no impact on a configuration that does not have channels in the height layer. |
