Understanding Selection Channels and Meter Instances

You can use Selection Channels to synchronize selections across multiple views. With Meter Instances, you can observe the levels of up to four different busses at the same time.

Using Selection Channels to Sync Views

You can use Selection Channels to sync views in either of the following ways:

  • In the Project Explorer and Event Viewer: If you have multiple instances of the Project Explorer and/or Event Viewer in different layouts, you might want these views to be synced. Choosing the same Selection Channel for multiple instances of either the Project Explorer or Event Viewer means that any selection or movement made in one instance of the view is automatically made in the other instance(s). For example, if you have three different Project Explorers in three different layouts all synced to Selection Channel 1 and you switch to the Game Syncs tab in one of the Project Explorers, all Project Explorer views synced to that channel automatically switch to the Game Syncs tab as well.

    [Note]Note

More than one instance of the Project Explorer or Event Viewer within the same layout cannot belong to the same Selection Channel.

  • In other views that include the Selection Channel icon in their title bar: Use this option to sync the view with a specific Selection Channel of the Project Explorer and/or Event Viewer. This means that any object selected in the Project Explorer or Event Viewer on that channel is automatically selected in the synced view(s).

To sync multiple instances of the Project Explorer or Event Viewer across layouts:

  1. From the Project Explorer or Event Viewer title bar, click the Selection Channel icon.

  2. From the shortcut menu, select one of the following options:

    • Pinned: To disable synchronization of the view with any channel.

    • Sync with Selection Channel 1: To sync the view to channel one.

    • Sync with Selection Channel 2: To sync the view to channel two.

    • Sync with Selection Channel 3: To sync the view to channel three.

    • Sync with Selection Channel 4: To sync the view to channel four.

  3. To sync the Project Explorers and Event Viewers in other layouts, switch layouts and then repeat steps 1-2.

To sync other views to a particular Project Explorer or Event Viewer channel:

  1. From the view's title bar, click the Selection Channel icon.

  2. From the shortcut menu, select one of the following options:

    • Sync with Any Selection Channel: To sync the view to any channel.

When you select an object in an Object Tab or Event Viewer, it's automatically selected in the Project Explorer of the same selection channel. To disable this automatic selection, clear Follow Object Selection.

Using Meter Instances to Monitor Multiple Busses

There are two different views dedicated to metering: Loudness Meter and Meter. Up to four instances of each of these views can be opened simultaneously. Each view must be set to a different meter instance: A, B, C, or D. Each instance can show the meter levels for a different bus or Audio Device. The bus or Audio Device selected for each instance is automatically restored the next time you open the same Wwise project.

To change the meter instance:

  1. Click the meter instance button (a letter from A to D) on the view title bar.

  2. From the menu, select one of the following options:

    • Meter - Instance A

    • Meter - Instance B

    • Meter - Instance C

    • Meter - Instance D
