Meter

The Meter view can display 3 different kinds of levels:

  • Peak
  • True Peak (as defined by ITU-R BS.1770-3)
  • RMS

Each type of level shows the values per channel. For more information about speaker configurations and channels, refer to Understanding Channel Configurations.

The color of the meter is:

  • green under -6 dB
  • yellow from -6 dB to 0 dB
  • red over 0 dB

Up to four different instances of the Meter view can be opened simultaneously. Each instance can show the meter levels for a different bus or Auxiliary Bus. Each Meter view instance needs to be on a different view sync group (1,2,3 or 4).

For more information, refer to Monitoring the Signal Level.

To change the sync group of a meter view instance:

  1. Click the sync group button on the view title bar (numbered from 1 to 4)

  2. From the menu, select the new sync group

The Meter displays the following elements:

Description

Peak

Peak metering measures the maximum or minimum values of a PCM signal for a very short period of time. (units: dBFS)

True Peak

True peak is an estimate of the maximum peak of the digital signal in the analogue domain. This value is useful when making sure the digital to analogue converter is not saturated. (units: dBTP)

True peak is implemented on ITU-R BS.1770-3 specifications.

Root mean square (RMS)

The RMS level is measured with the peak meter values and does an average over a very short period of time.
