Contents Editor: Voice

This Contents Editor gives you quick access to the properties associated with the audio source. You must click an audio source to display the associated column headings.

When working with Sound Voice objects, the Contents Editor will have language title bars to separate the different language versions that you might be working on simultaneously. You can expand and collapse the different language sections using the up and down arrows on the language title bars.

Interface Element

Description

Name

The name of the object.

Inc. (Language)

Determines whether the source for the specified language is included.

[Note] Note

If the language is in italics, that means it has no associated source, be that an audio file or a source plug-in.

Use

For the language, it consists of a Link/Unlink icon to apply the property settings across platforms. See more in Linking/Unlinking Property Values.

For the source, determines which version within the sound object is:

  • Played during playback.

  • Included in the SoundBanks.

This option is only visible when you have more than one source within the sound object.

The name of the audio file to which the source is linked.

Make-up Gain

Volume gain in decibels (dB) applied to the voice, after all other volume adjustments. The make-up gain is additive across the Actor-Mixer Hierarchy.

Refer to Understanding the Voice Pipeline to learn about how voices are being processed, how they are being routed and where the different volumes and Effects are being applied.

For more information about the Make-up Gain, refer to Using Loudness Normalization or Make-up gain to Adjust Volume.

Default value: 0
Range: -200 to 200
Units: dB

[Note] Note

The default slider range is from -96 to +12. You can go over those limits by entering the value directly, or by rolling the mouse while the focus is on the edit control.

Duration

The duration of the audio source.

Notes

Any additional information about the object properties.

Adds a new source to the sound object.

When you click the Add Source button, a list of possible sources that can be added is displayed.

[Note] Note

Your sound objects can also contain a variety of plug-in sources. The column headings that will appear in the Contents Editor will depend on the plug-in that you are using. When using plug-in sources, you may encounter the following:

  • Plug-ins that are not supported on a given platform.

  • Plug-ins that are not installed on a given machine.

If the plug-in you are using is not supported on the current platform, the source will appear dimmed in the Contents Editor. If the plug-in is not installed, it will be displayed in the Contents Editor; but, instead of the property controls that normally appear, a “Source plug-in not installed” message is displayed between the Use button and the Notes field.
