Version
- Help
When you install a new version of the SDK, the new installation overwrites the WWISESDK environment variable that identifies the SDK location. As a result, projects from older versions that use this variable will no longer use their corresponding SDK versions. To solve this problem, you must set the environment variable based on the version that you want to use. You can do this in one of the following ways:
Windows only: Use the Launcher to set the environment variables for you. This is the easiest method.
On the Wwise page, locate the version of Wwise that you want to use with the SDK.
In the Settings menu, click Set Environment Variables. A confirmation dialog opens.
Click Yes.
Use an existing build script to set the path correctly before the build starts.
Set the environment variable in the command prompt before you run the build tool.
The WWISEROOT environment variable identifies the main installer folder (for example
C:\Program Files\Audiokinetic\Wwise v2015.1 build XXXX\
). It can be used, for
example, by tools or scripts that run WwiseConsole.exe to build SoundBanks.
The Launcher typically detects all versions of Wwise installed on your system and lists them on the Wwise page. However, the Launcher might not be able to detect certain versions of Wwise, such as very old versions or versions that are managed by a version control system. On Windows, you can add these versions to the Launcher manually.
To add an installed version of Wwise to the Launcher (Windows only):
On the Wwise page, open the VERSIONS INSTALLED menu and click Locate local copy of Wwise.
A Windows Explorer window opens.
Find the desired Wwise version's wwise.exe
file.
Select the file and click Open.
The Explorer closes. The selected version of Wwise is included in the VERSIONS INSTALLED list.
You can install the latest version of Wwise and keep any previously installed versions on your workstation. It can be beneficial to maintain multiple versions in the following situations:
You created a project in a previous version, and you want to download the latest version to test the new features without migrating your project.
You are working on several projects that use different versions of Wwise. For example, you are:
A content provider whose clients use different versions of Wwise.
An audio designer working on a new project that uses the latest version of Wwise, while also finishing a project that uses an older version.
Installed versions of Wwise are displayed on the Wwise page of the Launcher, listed in order of version from later to earlier. Some versions of Wwise might not be detected by the Launcher, but those can be added manually. See Adding an Existing Installation to the Launcher.
Currently no shortcuts to Wwise are added to any operating system start menu. Certain legacy versions are accessible from the Windows Start menu.
If you have projects that were created in older versions of Wwise and that you do not want to migrate to the latest version, ensure that you only open them in their corresponding version of Wwise. If you open them in newer versions, Wwise prompts you to migrate them immediately.
We recommend that you review the release notes, especially the Important Migration Notes page, for the current version of Wwise before you install it so that you are aware of any features, issues, and workarounds that might affect the projects that you are currently working on.
The Launcher installs all the necessary components, including the Microsoft® .NET Framework v4.0, needed for the application to work properly. Remember that your installation only includes the platforms you selected to install and for which you are authorized. If you obtain authorization to develop on more platforms, contact Sales to change your profile. Then you can download and add the new platform files.
Refer to the following topics for more information about system requirements, the installation procedure, and uninstalling Wwise:
Wwise System Requirements in the Wwise Help.
You can uninstall Wwise at any time, if needed. For more information on uninstalling Wwise, refer to Uninstalling Wwise.
In some situations, you might have to add platform components to your current version of Wwise after the initial installation. For example, you might become an authorized developer for a new platform, you might receive a new license with access to additional plug-ins, or you might decide to add another package. You can install additional platform components through the Audiokinetic Launcher.
If you are authorized to develop on multiple platforms, contact Sales to change your profile so that you can download and install the new platform files.
To add components to your current installation:
On the Wwise page, find the version of Wwise that you want to update in the VERSIONS INSTALLED section.
In the settings menu, click Modify. A new page opens, in which you can select packages and deployment platforms.
Select the deployment platforms that you want to add and, optionally, any additional packages.
Click Next. The CHOOSE PLUG-INS page opens.
Optionally, select any additional plug-ins that you want to add to Wwise.
You can uninstall any version of Wwise from within the Launcher. While it is not necessary to uninstall Wwise before you update to a newer version, you might want to uninstall the previous version if you do not need it.
To uninstall a version of Wwise:
In the Audiokinetic Launcher, select the Wwise page.
Find the version of Wwise that you want to uninstall.
In the Settings menu, click Uninstall.
A confirmation dialog opens.
Click Yes. The selected version of Wwise is uninstalled.

You might notice that some temporary files remain in the Wwise and Wwise SDK installation folders after you uninstall Wwise. You can delete these files manually as required. |
