Transmission

When an object appears between the emitter and the listener, the sound can pass through the object. Spatial Audio models this phenomenon by filtering the direct path of the sound. Transmission loss values ranging from 0 to 1 can be applied on AkSurfaceReflectorSetComponent, AkGeometryComponent or AkRoomComponent components. The transmission loss value is then sent to Wwise where the associated filter is applied according to the occlusion curves of the project. Typically, a value of 1.0 represents full loss, and a value of 0.0 indicates that sound can be transmitted through the geometry without any loss.

info Note:
The Preparation for the Spatial Audio Tutorials must be completed prior to starting this tutorial.

The transmission loss value of a path is the maximum transmission loss value the sound encounters in a direct path from the emitter to the listener. The chosen transmission loss value can be from a geometry or a room.

  1. On AkSpatialAudioVolume components,
    1. if surface reflectors are enabled, a transmission loss value can be associated with each acoustic surface
Transmission Loss Value for Acoustic Surfaces
    2. if room is enabled, a transmission loss value can be associated to the walls of the room.
      Transmission Loss of the Room
  2. On AkGeometry components,
    1. a transmission loss value can be overriden in the Acoustic Properties Override section
      1. for the collision mesh:
Override the transmission loss value of the simple collision mesh in the AkGeometry component
      2. or for each material of the static mesh:
Override the transmission value of the static mesh in the AkGeometry component
      3. the transmission loss value can also be set per Physical Material in the AkGeometry Surface Properties Map of the Integration Settings
Associate Transmission Loss Values to Physical Materials
  3. By default, transmission loss translates to the occlusion curves of the Wwise project. Adjust these curves in the Obstruction/Occlusion tab of the Project Settings of the Authoring.
