This section documents the versions of the various tools used to build the current version of the Wwise Sound Engine.
The following versions of Microsoft Visual Studio are used to build the Wwise libraries:
-
Microsoft® Visual Studio 2008: version 9.0.30729.1
-
Microsoft® Visual Studio 2010: version 10.0.40219.1
-
Microsoft® Visual Studio 2012: version 11.0.61030.00 (Update 4)
-
Microsoft® Visual Studio 2013: version 12.0.30501.00 (Update 2)
-
Microsoft® Visual Studio 2015: version 14.0.23107.0
You will notice that the Wwise SDK installation directories are suffixed with "_vc" + version nubmer (such as "_vc90" or "_vc120") for both Win32 and x64:
-
vc90: Contains libraries for the Debug, Profile, and Release versions of Wwise that have a dependency on version 9.0.30729.6161 of the CRT DLL, which corresponds to Visual Studio 2008 version 9.0.30729.1 (Visual Studio's KB971092 update).
-
vc100: Contains libraries for the Debug, Profile, and Release versions of Wwise that have a dependency on version 10.0.40219.1 of the CRT DLL, which corresponds to Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 version 10.0.40219.1.
-
vc120: Contains libraries for the Debug, Profile, and Release versions of Wwise that have a dependency on version 12.0.30501.00 of the CRT DLL, which corresponds to Visual Studio 2013 Service Pack 2 version 12.0.30501.00.
If you are using a different version of Visual Studio, or if you don't want your game to depend on either of the above-mentioned versions of the CRT DLL, you can link to the libraries from the Debug (StaticCRT), Profile (StaticCRT), and Release (StaticCRT) folders instead.

Caution: In order to build the 64-bit version of C++ projects for the Windows platform, you must have the optional "X64 Compilers and Tools" component installed with Visual Studio. The following instructions are for Visual Studio 2008 and later editions.
To verify if the "X64 Compilers and Tools" are installed or not:
- If you're on Windows XP, go to "Control Panel", then "Add or Remove Programs".
If you're on a later version of Windows, go to "Control Panel", then "Programs and Features".
- Select "Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU" (actual name depends on version and edition).
- If you're on Windows XP, click "Change/Remove" on that row.
If you're on another version of Windows, click "Uninstall/Change" at the top of the list.
- Once the setup is ready (it may take a few minutes), click "Next", then "Add or Remove Features".
- Expand "Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition" (or your MSVS version) > "Language Tools" > "Visual C++".
- Verify that the "X64 Compilers and Tools" check box is selected. If it isn't, select it and proceed with the update.
