Radial Emitters

Description:

  • Emitters can be customized with an inner and outer radius. Radial emitters can be combined using multiposition to simulate a volumetric sound source of any shape. The radii are used for dynamic spread calculations. If the listener is outside the outer radius, then the spread is defined by the area that the sphere takes in the listener's field of view. When the listener intersects the outer radius the spread is exactly 50%. If the listener is inside the inner radius, the spread is 100%.

Action Item:

  • The ocean sounds in the WAL are emitted by a multipositioned radial emitter.

  • Connect Wwise Authoring to the WAL and open the Game Object 3D Viewer (in the Game Object Profiler layout, opened with F12) to visualize the radial emitters' positions and the spread created on the listener.

What to Expect:

  • Travel along the coastline to hear and see how the spread reacts. With only a spread attenuation curve on an emitter, the spread would have stayed roughly the same everywhere on the coastline. With radial emitters, the spread is dynamic and englobes the listener more or less depending on its position on the coastline. For example at a 'corner' of the island, the effective spread is more than 180 degrees around the listener.
