Track Layers Specific to the Quadcopters Collection

The layers in the collection combine to create a composite track. They are nested, so it is possible to render the entire sound from this track. In all of the quadcopter subprojects, the composite track has “Composite” in the name.

The following image shows the tracks of a quadcopter subproject, which are arranged as layers that combine to produce the sound of the specific quadcopter. The tracks are assigned colors on a per-layer basis, and these track names and colors are used similarly across all quadcopter subprojects.

Most sounds in the collection are recorded using a single pair of microphones with no deviation in perspective across the recordings of each quadcopter. To augment the sounds while maintaining their characteristics, the layers in the subprojects of the collection are derived from the original stereo recordings, using a combination of filtering and processing techniques.

Composite

The Composite track is at the top of the layer hierarchy and is the composite output of all the layers combined. All composite tracks are colored white in all collections.

Basic Layer 1

The Basic Layer is the main character of a quadcopter sound. It helps to generate size, type, and function. The sounds of the different actions a quadcopter can perform are each on their own track. All Basic Layer tracks use yellow custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.

Weight Layer

The Weight Layer tracks provide low-end size definition and impact. To preserve the fidelity and authenticity of the sounds, these tracks are derived from the Basic Layer sounds, which are filtered and processed to produce the desired characteristics of weight. The volume of this layer is generally low by default. All Weight Layer tracks use red custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.

Cinematic Layer

The Cinematic Layer contains elements you can use for dramatic moments when the quadcopter movement is the center of attention. Similar to the Weight Layer, this layer is derived from the Basic Layer tracks, but in this case, the filtering and processing are more exaggerated. All Cinematic Layer tracks use purple custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades. This layer is muted by default.

Additional Layer 5

The Additional Layer includes a variety of maneuvering sounds. The layer is muted by default.

All Additional Layer tracks use green custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.
