Recommended REAPER Settings

After you install REAPER and the other required and optional software, we recommend that you configure REAPER as described in this section.

REAPER is an extremely flexible DAW. These configuration settings are the same ones used during the creation of the Strata collections and ensure that:

  • You experience optimal performance.

  • You can experiment with projects freely and retain the ability to revert to earlier project states, which minimizes risks to project integrity.

  • All renders are saved to the same relative paths so that you can find all of the rendered files easily, even if you move the project.

  • All .reapeak files are stored in a folder with the same relative path as its media and are not rebuilt unnecessarily.

Disabling Subproject Rendering

The Strata collection main projects contain subprojects. By default, REAPER is configured to render subprojects automatically, which is unnecessary with Strata because each main project contains rendered versions of selected sounds from the subprojects. We strongly recommend that you disable subproject rendering to improve performance.

To disable automatic subproject rendering:

  1. Open a REAPER project.

  2. Right-click the project tab. If no project tab is visible, you might have to create a new one (refer to the REAPER User Guide for more information).

  3. Select Subproject rendering > Do not automatically render subprojects (require manual render).

Setting REAPER Preferences

To set REAPER preferences:

  1. Open REAPER.

  2. From the menu bar, click Options > Preferences. The REAPER Preferences dialog opens.

  3. On the General page, select the following options:

  4. On the Paths page, set the following paths, depending on whether you are using the ReaWwise REAPER extension to transfer files from REAPER to Wwise.

    • If you are not using ReaWwise, set the render and peaks paths as follows:

    • If you are using ReaWwise, set the peaks path as follows and leave the default render path empty:

  5. On the Project page, select the following options:

  6. On the Media page, set the options as follows:

  7. Click OK.

  8. From the menu bar, click File > Project Render Metadata.

  9. In the dialog that opens, select the following options and click OK.
