Track Layers Specific to the Historical Firearms Collection

The Layers combine to create a composite sound. They are nested, so it is possible to render the entire sound from this track. In all of the Historical Firearms projects, the composite track is named Shots.

Tracks of a Historical Firearm subproject that are arranged as Layers that combine to produce the sound design of the specific firearm. The Tracks are assigned colors on a per-layer basis and these track names and colors are used similarly across all the Firearm subprojects.

Composite

The Shots track is the top of the layer hierarchy and is the composite output of all the layers combined. All composite tracks are colored white in all libraries.

01 Basic Layer 1

The Basic Layer is the main shot character of a gun. It helps to generate size, type and function. Additionally it can be used as a standard distance sound effect on its own. All Basic Layer tracks use yellow custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.

02 Details Layer 2 Mechanic

The Mechanic layer features the mechanical movements of the trigger and any other moving parts within the weapons during the shot. When rendered separately, it can be added with random loudness, timing, and pitch to create more overall variety for the shots. All Details Layer 2 tracks use blue custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades

03 Details Layer 3 Transient

The Transient layer is the closest and most aggressive part of the sound. For a close perspective, you can change the timing to alter the overall gun sound character. All Details Layer 3 tracks use orange custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.

04 Weight Layer 4 Punch

The term “Punch” refers to a low kick, like a bass drum. It is a natural sound and depending on the timing, it can simulate the recoil punching into the shooter's body. All Weight Layer Tracks use red custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.

05 Custom Layer 5 Tail

The Tail layer affects the perception of the size of a gun sound relative to the space in which the shot occurs. For instance, a short and loud tail gives the impression that the gunshot occupies a lot of space in a small room. The weapons were recorded outdoors in an open landscape to allow a long natural and neutral decay. You can manipulate the decay according to the use case or replace it by using reverb, for example. All Custom Layer 5 tracks use aqua custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.

Cinematic Layer

The Cinematic Layer contains elements that you can use for dramatic cinematic moments where the weapon is the center of attention. All Cinematic Layer tracks use purple custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades. This layer is muted by default.

Additionals Layer

The Additionals layer includes a broad selection of microphones and different perspectives used in the recording of the weapons. These tracks provide additional flexibility to experiment and produce designs to suit unique needs. All Additional Layer tracks use green custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades. This layer is muted by default.
