Track Layers Specific to the Explosions Collection
The layers in the Explosions collection combine to create a composite sound. They are
nested, so it is possible to render the entire sound from this track. In all of the
explosion projects, the composite track is named Composite.
The following image displays the tracks of an Explosions subproject, which are
arranged as layers that combine to produce the sound design of the specific environment
type of an explosion.
Track colors vary by layer, and the track names and colors are used similarly
throughout the Explosions subprojects.
The Composite track is the top of the layer hierarchy and is the composite output
of all the layers combined. All composite tracks are colored white in all
collections.
The Basic Layer is the defining characteristic of an explosion. It helps to
generate size, type, and function. Additionally, it can be used as a standard
distance sound effect on its own. All Basic Layer tracks use yellow custom colors,
alternating between light and dark shades.
Details Layer 2 Transient
The Transient layer is the closest and most aggressive part of the sound. For a
close perspective, you can change the timing to alter the overall explosion sound
character. All Details Layer 2 tracks use orange custom colors, alternating between
light and dark shades.
The term “Punch” refers to a low kick, like a bass drum. It is a natural sound and
depending on the timing, it can simulate the punching effect of the sound as its
wave passes through your body. All Weight Layer tracks use red custom colors,
alternating between light and dark shades.
The Tail layer affects the perception of the size of an explosion sound relative
to the volume in which the explosion occurs. For instance, a short and loud tail
gives the impression that the explosion occupies a lot of space in a small room. A
majority of the explosions were recorded outdoors in an open landscape to allow a
long, natural, and neutral decay. There is a subproject of explosions that were
specifically recorded indoors. You can manipulate the decay according to the use
case or replace it by using reverb, for example. All Custom Layer 4 tracks use aqua
custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades.
The Cinematic Layer contains elements that you can use for dramatic cinematic
moments where the explosion is the center of attention. All Cinematic Layer tracks
use purple custom colors, alternating between light and dark shades. This layer is
muted by default.
The Additionals layer includes a broad selection of microphones and different
perspectives used in the recording of the explosions. These tracks provide
additional flexibility to experiment and produce designs to suit unique needs. All
Additional Layer tracks use green custom colors, alternating between light and dark
shades. This layer is muted by default.
