Examining objects with the Game Object 3D Viewer

The Game Object 3D Viewer allows you to see how objects interact and move relative to one another in real time in their roles as emitters and/or listeners.

Each game object is displayed in the Game Object 3D viewer with an icon. You can customize the view depending on the options you select in the Viewer Settings. For example, you can add to the view any cone or radius that has been applied to a game object. You can also reduce the number of game objects in the view by creating Game Object Filters.

[Note]Note

Game objects are only updated constantly when actively in use. When a game object is still registered but is not currently used by any playing Event, Effect, or plug-in, the game object position might display the last known used position.

Enabling Spatial Audio in the Game Object 3D Viewer

To enable Spatial Audio visuals to appear in the Game Object 3D Viewer, you need to profile them.

Spatial Audio profiling data includes visuals for the Spatial Audio Geometry and Portals, new icons for Spatial Audio Emitters, Listeners and Rooms, as well as sound paths and virtual objects created by Diffraction, Sound Propagation, and the Reflect Effect plug-in.

To specify the data to be profiled:

  1. In the Advanced Profiler, click the Settings icon.

    The Profiler Settings dialog opens.

  2. Select the Spatial Audio.

  3. Click Close.

    The data will be displayed in the Game Object 3D Viewer.

[Note]Note

Spatial Audio uses a lot of resources. It is possible that some information, e.g. the Spatial Audio Geometry, is missing from the Game Object 3D Viewer. Make sure to increase the uMonitorQueuePoolSize from the AkInitSettings.

Specifying the data to be displayed in the Game Object 3D Viewer

By changing the settings of the Game Object 3D viewer, you can have as much or as little data displayed as you choose. Naturally, the more data types you select, the more complex the view will be.

To specify the data to be displayed in the Game Object 3D Viewer:

  1. In the Game Object 3D Viewer, click .

    The Game Object 3D Viewer Options view opens.

  2. Select the options that you want to appear in the Game Object 3D Viewer.

    The data is displayed in the Game Object 3D Viewer according to the criteria you selected.

    For a description of each of the options click the Help icon in the Game Object 3D Viewer Options view.

  3. Close the view, or if you plan to use it often, you can dock it in the layout. Refer to Docking and undocking views and Object Tabs

Working with the camera

You can explore the 3D viewer in all three dimensions by controlling and moving the camera with the mouse. In this way, you can observe game objects as they interact with one another in their roles as emitters and/or listeners.

The perspective camera moves in first-person, similar to how you would navigate in games.

  • W/Up: move forward

  • S/Down: move backward

  • A/Left: move left

  • D/Right: move right

  • E/Page Up: move up (relative to the world orientation)

  • Q/Page Down: move down (relative to the world orientation)

Hold Shift to move faster.

Reset Camera

The camera returns to its default position.

Locate Object

The camera centers on the selected object from the list.

Follow Object

The camera follows the object as it moves during capture.

Select the object to follow with the locate object action.

Frame All

The camera adjusts to fit all game objects with in the 3D Viewer.

Using the Game Object Filter

By creating Game Object Filters, you can reduce the number of game objects displayed in the Game Object List and 3D Viewer. Filters can be enabled or disabled, and individual game objects can be pinned to the Game Object List, allowing them to override the filters.

To create a Game Object Filter:

  1. In the Game Object Filter pane of the Game Object 3D Viewer, click the Selector [>>] button.

  2. Select the Name or ID option.

  3. Enter the game object name or ID you would like to retain in the Game Object List and 3D Viewer.

    Game objects that do not have a name or ID matching the filter are removed from the Game Object List and 3D Viewer.

    [Note]Note

    An asterisk can be used as a wildcard in the filter string.

    [Tip]Tip

    Alternatively, you can select one or many items in the Game Object List and then select Add to Game Object Filters in the shortcut menu. This automatically creates a filter for each of the selected game objects.

To delete a Game Object Filter:

  1. In the Game Object Filter pane of the Game Object 3D Viewer, click the Selector [>>] button to the left of the filter you would like to delete.

  2. Select the Remove option.

    The filter is deleted.

To disable a Game Object Filter:

  • In the Game Object Filter pane of the Game Object 3D Viewer, click the button located to the left of the filter you would like to disable.

    The button turns gray and all objects that were removed by the filter reappear in both the Game Object List and 3D Viewer.

To disable all Game Object Filters:

  • In the Game Object 3D Viewer, click the button.

    The button turns gray and all objects that were removed by any of the Game Object Filters reappear in both the Game Object List and 3D Viewer.

To pin a game object:

  • In the Game Object List pane of the Game Object 3D Viewer, click the button located to the left of the game object you would like to pin.

    The pin button turns orange and the game object remains in the Game Object List and 3D Viewer, regardless of the Game Object Filters.
