Voice Asset Importer

In the Voice Asset Importer, you can import the contents of a tab delimited text file into Wwise to automatically create multiple Sound Voice objects in your project. The Voice Asset Importer not only speeds up the creation process but also reduces the potential for error.

[Note]Note

The tab delimited text file can be generated from an external application such as Microsoft Excel.

Although your spreadsheets can have many different types of information, Wwise will read only the following four types of information:

  • Filenames - This information is used to create the Sound Voice object and its corresponding audio source. Initially, the audio source will be empty, but it does contain a reference to an audio file with the same name. This means you can replace it in the same way you would any other audio file in Wwise.

  • Random Container names - This information, if included in the text file, is used to create a parent Random Container for the corresponding Sound Voice object.

  • Sound Voice notes - This information is added to the Notes field of the Sound Voice object.

  • Audio source notes - This information is added to the Notes field of the audio source.

The order and amount of information in your text file is not important because, before importing the file, you must specify which columns in your text file you want to import. You do this by assigning a column in the text file to one of the four information types. If a column in your text file has not been assigned to one of the four information types, it will be ignored by Wwise.

The only mandatory piece of information that you must import is the filename. Since this filename is used to create the Sound Voice object and the audio source in Wwise, each filename in your text file must be unique. The filename is also given to the audio file (WAV) that is linked to the audio source.

To help you make sure you have correctly assigned the columns, the Voice Assets Importer also displays a preview of the objects that will be created and the information that will be imported.

Interface Element

Description

File to import

Displays the name and location of the tab delimited text file that you want to import.

Opens a dialog where you can specify which tab delimited text file you want to import.

Import Options

Use header

Determines whether the header row names appear in the Column Index list. If this option is not selected, the Column Index list uses numbers to identify the columns, for example, Column 1, Column 2, and so on.

Header row

Specifies which row in the text file contains the column headers.

Start import at row

Specifies the row at which Wwise will begin reading the voice asset information.

Column Type

The four types of information that Wwise can import are as follows:

  • Filename - The name that will be given to the Sound Voice object and the audio source.

  • Random Container Name - The name that will be given to the Random Container.

  • Sound Voice Note - Additional information that will be added to the Notes field of the Sound Voice object. For example, you may want to add the name of the character speaking the dialogue.

  • Audio Source Note - Additional information that will be added to the Notes field of the audio source. For example, you may want to include the actual line of dialogue that is spoken.

Only the Filename information is required to create the voice assets in Wwise.

Column Index

A list of available columns in the tab delimited text file. You can map the columns in the text file to the different column types in Wwise.

The location in the project hierarchy where the new voice assets will be created.

Opens the Project Explorer - Browser where you can specify into which Wwise object or folder the new voice assets will be created.

Shows the Custom Properties editor dialog allowing to set custom properties on the imported objects.

[Note]Note

This option is only available when custom properties are set in the Project Settings.
