Within each Conversion Settings ShareSet, you are able to select how many channels an audio source is converted into. The various options are as follows:
-
As Input: Does not change the channel configuration.
-
Mono / Stereo: Mixes the supplemental channels into the selected channels. If you have a 5-channel audio source and select Mono, all channels will be mixed into one channel.
-
Mono / Stereo Drop: Disregards all channels but the selected. If you have a 5-channel audio source and select Stereo Drop, it’ll only preserve the left and right channels.
For most audio sources in WAG, the conversion will keep the mono channel configuration because many positional sounds come from a single emitter point.
Let’s now demonstrate how to change audio channels for the Object_Quest Conversion Settings ShareSet.
-
From the Layouts menu, select Designer.
-
In the Project Explorer’s ShareSets tab, select the Ambient_Detailed Conversion Settings ShareSet.
In the Audio Sources Section, notice how some audio structures in the Org. Chan. column have two channels. All these audio sources are positioned in 3D space, so let’s convert all to mono.
-
In the platform list’s Channels column, set all to Mono.
-
Click Convert... and in the Audio File Conversion Dialog click Convert.
By changing all these sounds from ‘As Input’ to ‘Mono’, you’ve made sure that every audio source is converted to mono no matter the number of channels on audio file import. This will also reduce the size of any multi-channel audio files.

Close the Conversion Settings Editor.
