You’ll begin by adding another 8 measures of combat music that are based on the same theme and instrumentation you’ve already created, but with a slightly different set of chord changes. The Music Segment you created was designated as the A section, and now the next 8 bars you create will be the B section. The two parts played in succession will create what feels like a singular 16-bar segment of music. The advantage of dividing the 16 bars into two halves is that it allows Wwise to process the Sub-Track randomization system independently for each half. This provides the possibility for various musical lines to begin with one instrument or variation and then have it taken over by another halfway through the line. Using the sequential approach you used in Lesson 1, you can combine the two halves together. Each time this mini arrangement is played it creates an opportunity for any number of permutations, such as the horn line being taken over by the choir, or the choir handing the part off to the strings. This applies to the variations as well—sometimes the bass pulses through all 16 bars, sometimes it only happens for the first half, and so on. That’s a lot of variety!
