Panning Considerations

When it comes to stereo imaging, nearly all of the panning cues in the mix up until now have been derived from the pan positions that were set in the DAW project and rendered into the stereo audio assets you’ve imported. Once again, because the Synth parts are being generated from within Wwise, you must configure any panning offsets within Wwise as well. To separate the Melody Synth from the Arpeggio Synth in the stereo image, you’ll pan the Arpeggio Synth to the right side of the stereo image. This can be done by changing the Speaker Panning property to Balance-Fade.

[Note]

The Wwise Speaker Panner system is explained in the Wwise-101 course, Lesson 4.

  1. In the Project Explorer, double-click the Arpeggio Synth and, in the Property Editor, click the Positioning tab.

  2. Change the Speaker Panning property to Balance-Fade.

  3. Click the Edit button to the right of the Balance-Fade setting.

The Speaker Panner appears displaying a surround sound panning grid. All of the music for the game has been configured to play from the left and right speakers only. To keep the Arpeggio Synth in line with the rest of the music, you’ll need to drag the control point to the top of the panner and then to the right to offset it in the stereo image. You don’t need to worry about the sound being emitted from the center speaker because the Center % value is set to the default value of 0, meaning that it will not be included.

  4. In the Speaker Panner, drag the control point to roughly halfway between the center and right front position.

  5. In the Project Explorer, select and play the Boss-A and Boss-C Music Segments to hear the change in the Arpeggio Synth’s pan position.

  6. Close the Speaker Panner window and close the Arpeggio Synth Property Editor.
