BaseHead, LLC recently introduced a range of enhancements to basehead for 2025 aimed at improving user experience and functionality. Notable for Strata users is the integration of the Audiokinetic Reaper Tools script “Open in Associated REAPER Project”, newly renamed in basehead as “Explode in REAPER Project”.
Explode in REAPER Project
The “Explode in REAPER Project” feature in basehead leverages metadata to identify files rendered from Strata. With a simple right-click, it opens the parent REAPER project of the selected file. The cursor is automatically positioned at the exact point on the timeline corresponding to the source media item’s file, enabling you to easily customize the sound to fit your project’s needs.

This functionality works seamlessly with basehead Connect, a VST3/AU/AAX plugin that streams up to eight channels of audio directly from basehead into your chosen DAW. Combined with basehead’s automatic scanning for new files, you have an efficient and innovative workflow to maximize your creativity.
Other improvements to basehead include:
- Performance and Interface: The application has been rebuilt with a high-tech, cross-platform modular framework, resulting in performance improvements of up to four times in various areas. The user interface has been refreshed for a more modern and consistent appearance across both PC and Mac platforms.
- Search and Organization: Users can now create unlimited search blocks with advanced conditional options, facilitating more precise searches. The introduction of multiple results lists and taglists allows for better organization and management of search outcomes.
- Customization: The personalization tab enables users to adjust accent and background colors, meters, playhead, and waveform, with controls for saturation and hue, allowing for a tailored user experience.
- Audio Handling: The new mixer panel supports 16-channel interleaved metering with solo and mute options. Users can extract multiple audio channels in any order, with the ability to spot to track in the same sequence. Additionally, the software now supports transfers at the original sample rate and bit depth, including FLAC format.
- User Interface Flexibility: Most panels can now be floated, providing a customizable workspace. There are four different layouts to choose from, with future updates planned to allow rearranging and re-docking of every section within the new modular user interface engine.
These updates collectively enhance the efficiency and adaptability of basehead for audio professionals.
